Data sources
How we build the directory and where the data comes from.
Source registers
Our initial dataset was compiled from three publicly available registers maintained by UK construction industry bodies. All data was collected from sources that are freely accessible on the open web.
| Source | What it provides | Records |
|---|---|---|
| CITB ATO Register | Approved Training Organisations accredited by CITB | ~1,200 |
| CPCS Centre List | Registered CPCS test and training centres | ~400 |
| BMC Scheme Data | British Mechanic's Certificate participating centres | ~250 |
Records were deduplicated by name and postcode, resulting in approximately 1,856 unique training centres across the UK.
Geocoding
Centre locations are geocoded from UK postcodes using postcodes.io, a free and open-source UK postcode API. This allows search results to be sorted by distance from any entered postcode.
Not every centre has a confirmed postcode. Where a postcode is missing, the centre appears in search results by name and course type but is excluded from distance-based sorting and may not show a map pin.
Qualification codes
Course and qualification data is normalised using the
OpenFORMA Construction Lexicon coding system. Each qualification is assigned
a structured code (e.g. CON:CERT:CPCS-A17) that maps to a human-readable label.
This ensures consistent search results regardless of how a centre describes their courses.
Update frequency
The directory is refreshed quarterly from source registers. Contact details are updated when centres or users report changes. We aim to process corrections within 48 hours.
Found something wrong? Report outdated or incorrect data to [email protected]. Include the centre name and what needs correcting.
Limitations
NTI does not verify that centres are currently trading. A centre appearing in the directory means it held accreditation at the time of our last data refresh. Accreditation status, course availability, and pricing should always be confirmed directly with the centre.
We do not scrape private databases, paywalled directories, or centres that have asked to be removed. If you manage a centre and do not wish to be listed, email [email protected] and we will remove your listing within 24 hours.
